Verizon call forwarding codes and setup

Verizon uses star codes for call forwarding, not the GSM codes you see on AT&T or T-Mobile. Dial the code below from your Verizon phone, wait for the confirmation tone, and every call routes wherever you want it. The whole thing takes about thirty seconds and there is no app to install.

Two things trip Verizon customers up more than anything else, and both are covered below: there is no iPhone Settings toggle for forwarding on Verizon, and Live Voicemail can grab the call before it ever forwards. Get those two right and forwarding just works.

The codes below cover Verizon Wireless (including Visible) and Verizon Fios home phone, which use slightly different no-answer codes.

No iPhone Settings toggle on Verizon

On AT&T and T-Mobile iPhones, you can flip call forwarding on from Settings, Phone, Call Forwarding. On Verizon, that screen is greyed out or missing. Verizon does forwarding through dial codes only, so ignore the Settings menu and use the dialer.

You can also manage it in the My Verizon app under your line settings if you would rather see it on a screen than trust a dial tone. Either way, the code and the app do the same thing.

Turn Live Voicemail off first

On a recent iPhone, Live Voicemail can answer and transcribe the call on the device before Verizon gets a chance to forward it. If your code went through but calls still land in voicemail, this is almost always why.

Turn it off under Settings, Phone, Live Voicemail, then re-enter your forwarding code. Now unanswered calls forward instead of getting intercepted.

All calls versus only the ones you miss

Forward all calls and your Verizon phone never rings. That is what you want if the goal is to hand the line off completely. Forward only missed calls and your phone rings first, then anything you do not pick up rolls over. Most business owners want the second one so they can still grab calls when they are free.

Verizon Fios and home phone lines use a separate no-answer code and add busy-line forwarding on top. Both sets of codes are shown above, pulled straight from the same data our app uses so they stay correct.

After the call forwards

Forwarding is only half the job. The point is what happens after the call routes over. Point your Verizon line at a NextPhone number and an AI receptionist answers in under five seconds, every time, day or night.

It books appointments, answers questions about your hours and services, captures the caller name and reason, and texts you a summary. Across more than 1.4 million calls it has answered, NextPhone resolves 90 to 95 percent without needing to reach you, and forwards the rest to your phone with the full context. Flat 199 dollars a month, unlimited calls.

Quick answers about forwarding your Verizon line

Dial *72 your NextPhone number to forward every call, or *71 your NextPhone number to forward only the calls you do not answer. Turn forwarding off with *73. Verizon uses star codes, not the GSM codes AT&T and T-Mobile use.

On iPhone, Live Voicemail answers the call on the device before it can forward. Turn it off under Settings, Phone, Live Voicemail, then re-enter your forwarding code and test again.

Yes. Visible runs on the Verizon network and inherits the same star codes. Total Wireless and other Verizon-owned prepaid brands do too.

Fios uses *72 your NextPhone number for all calls and a separate no-answer code, plus busy-line forwarding. The exact Fios codes are listed above. You can also set it in your Verizon account online.

Dial *73 and wait for the confirmation tone. If you set no-answer forwarding, the same deactivate code clears it on Verizon Wireless.
